A.E. Engine Is Commissioned to Produce Prestigious 2020 Sarasota Polo Club Magazine

For the second year in a row, A.E. Engine managed the project to produce the Sarasota Polo Club Magazine.

The 2020 edition will serve as the program of record for all of the exhilarating polo matches at one of the most beautiful settings in Sarasota, Fla. The publication includes schedules, polo terms and basics, features on players, youth programs, schools, Clydesdales, dogs of polo, photographers and more.

A.E. Engine served as an extension of the Sarasota Polo Club staff during the production process. In choosing to work with A.E. Engine, Sarasota Polo Club added five staff members to its custom publishing team. A.E. Engine staff managed the project from inception to completion by creating a schedule for the SPC staff to honor. Through this project, A.E. Engine showcased its ability to handle all aspects of custom publishing, including budgeting, design, print and shipping.

A.E. Engine’s contributions to this custom publishing process included:

Print Coordination and Production Schedule Management

Once the SPC publishing staff relayed its target date to receive the 2019 program, A.E. Engine took it from there — drafting a schedule with dates for each step of the production process (i.e. editorial copy due, article and photo approval date, advertisement deadline, print deadline, shipment date).

A.E. Engine staff then managed the project to ensure that all deadlines were met, and the programs were shipped to SPC before the required date. Throughout this process, the A.E. Engine staff communicated directly with writers, photographers and advertisers to keep everyone on schedule.

Design

A.E. Engine’s design team put its stamp on the magazine by creating layouts that are both creative and classic. The A.E. Engine staff went through SPC’s archive of photos to select the most complementary images for each feature story.

The A.E. Engine staff fulfilled the requests of the SPC staff to make several of the pages keepsake collectibles (posters, schedules) that can be removed from the magazine and placed on the refrigerator or in coffee shops. Each page of the Sarasota Polo Club Magazine is unique, offering a visual experience that is matched only by the beauty of the club itself.

Advertising Coordination and Design

A.E. Engine worked directly with SPC partners to ensure the quality of the advertisements in the program exceeded the expectations of the clients. In many instances, the A.E. Engine staff designed advertisements for the clients after requesting logos and photographs.

A.E. Engine’s advertisement design helped strengthen the partnerships between Sarasota Polo Club and its clients. In the case of each advertisement, the A.E. Engine staff sought out and received approval from the client before going to press.

Editing and Writing

A.E. Engine staff met with the SPC editorial staff at the start of the project to draft an editorial plan for the magazine. A.E. Engine then hired writers and photographers to contribute, and oversaw all aspects of the editorial process including assigning stories and photos, arranging interviews, adhering to editorial deadlines, editing, photo collection and proofing.

In the case of the magazine’s People of Polo feature in which SPC partners were featured with bios, A.E. Engine staff conducted the interviews and wrote the stories to ensure that the relationship between SPC staff and its partners strengthened.

Collateral Creation

In addition to producing the annual Sarasota Polo Club Magazine, A.E. Engine produced several items that SPC staff and club members can enjoy for years to come, including posters, signs, logos and trading cards.

A.E. Engine designed a 2020 schedule poster that can be used through the SPC grounds to market the competitions in the coming months. A.E. Engine also designed a poster of the Sarasota Magazine Polo Club cover, which can be displayed both on club grounds and in shops and store fronts in the Lakewood Ranch region.

A.E. Engine designed trading cards for the dogs of Sarasota Polo Club, which will serve as collectibles for the children of SPC club members. Each trading card has room for a paw-tograph, so club members can try to collect paw prints from each of their favorite canines.

Through this project, A.E. Engine showcased its ability to take the lead in the custom publishing process.
